“Volunteers are the heart of our church and every church. But, as believers in Jesus Christ we are more than just volunteers.

We are servants.”

As much as the church loves to use the term “volunteer,” as believers in Christ “volunteering” is not an option. Paul teaches that the church is designed to function as a body with each of us given different talents and gifts (Romans 12:4-81 Corinthians 12). These talents and gifts are to be used to love God and love one another working together with one heart and purpose. We do this by being servants. Jesus said that he came not to be served, but serve others; that greatness is found in being a servant to the people (Mark 10:41-45). Jesus shows us what this looks like as He washed the disciples feet at the last supper (John 13:1-20). As believers we don’t have the option to “volunteer.”

Volunteer Job Descriptions

FWBFUMC has many such servants with many different talents and gifts. Our servants are very important to us and we work hard at making sure they get the help, support and resources they need to serve in their God given passion. For many of our serving opportunities we have written job descriptions to further help in their success.

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
